James Cameron Mielke
Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of living and working in some of the poorest, most remote and under-served countries of the Asia-Pacific region. My contribution as an outsider involves assisting governments, international development organizations and communities to strengthen local and national health systems for improved community-based primary health care, women and child health, and communicable diseases control, including HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support. During this time, I have worked with a variety of international health and development organizations (in 23 countries and the USA), including:
Alaska Native Health Board
Asian Development Bank
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)
Catholic Relief Services
International Rescue Committee
Red Cross Society (Thailand)
Save the Children (UK)
Tom Dooley Heritage
United Nations Joint Program on AIDS (UNAIDS)
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
World Health Organization (WHO)
World Vision International
Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)
I have also been studying and practicing various forms of yoga and meditation for 25 years, and received my yoga teaching certification in 2003 from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Netala, Himalayas, India. I have also completed intensive meditation training courses in Thailand and India, and am well grounded in Buddhist Meditation and Raja Yoga traditions. My instructional style encourages individual expression – spiritual or secular – and is tailored to all levels of ability and experience.
Over the past 12 years, I have taught yoga and meditation in a variety of private and non-profit health clubs, schools, family retreat and conference centers, including the Beach Club Resort on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Center, Phuket, Thailand, NIST International School, Bangkok, Thailand, Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks, New York, and Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA of the Rockies, Colorado, USA. I currently live in a peaceful seaside setting on Phuket Island in southern Thailand.
